Spec Work

Hamilton Comicon is an annual convention that draws geeks, nerds and fans together to celebrate, connect and meet their heroes in real life in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario.

The vision for this project came straight from Hamilton’s own lore — the city nicknamed the Hammer. This led me to consider other iconic hammers from wrestler Greg ‘The Hammer’ Valentine, to Grond the Hammer of the Underworld, to Thor’s Mjölnir. 

What better way to bring together the imagery of Hamilton — the Hammer — with a symbol that spanned so many fandoms. I paired the Warhammer icon with a bold typeface to create the logo, drawing on a bold and exciting colour palette featuring gold and black and rounded out the visual identity with a secondary typeface that has a fun, nerdy comic book feel.
