Spec Work

Cowabonga Cannabis is a brick and mortar chain of cannabis shops in Ontario. The vibes are easy, breezy and relaxed. I wanted to encapsulate those vibes and I took my inspiration from the quintessential summer energy of a retro surf shop. I created a fun and playful colour palette and chose a typeface that fit the vintage surf shop feel.

The shop’s more complex primary logo, complimented by a minimalist secondary logo allows for a variety of applications for their branding that scales to work on everything from package labels to staff uniforms. The inclusion of a surfboard in Cowabonga’s visual identity emphasises the retro surf shop theme, with the added bonus of the shape resembling its most notable products.
